In the SCULPTURE GARDEN




The Sculpture Garden was designed by Dallas-based landscape architect Mahlon Perry and is noted for its dramatic curved walls, large reflecting pool, a water wall, graceful landscaping and grassy areas for sculpture placement. The current exhibition of sculptures features artists Eric McGehearty, Larry Whiteley, David Hayes and Eliseo Garcia and two sculptures from the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden by American artist Reuben Nakian. Permanent installations include the majestic granite Fountain Columns by Jesús Moroles, limestone benches by Michael Manjarris, the monumental Irving Centennial Mural mosaic and the recently donated sculpture ’03 Politicized Democracy by John Brough Miller.

Denise Fleming: Painting with Paper

September 13 to December 28

Dupree Theater Lobby

 

Original book illustrations by children's author and artist Denise Fleming. Using hand-made paper and a variety of cut paper techniques, Fleming's illustrations come to life through vibrant textures and colors. The exhibit showcases Fleming's work from start to finish, with emphasis on the various techniques used to create her children's books. Exhibit organized by the National Center for Children's Illustrated Literature, Abilene , Texas .

Features 29 quilts from the Paul D. Pilgrim Collection at the Museum of the American Quilter's Society in Paducah , Kentucky . The late Paul Pilgrim collected antique "orphan quilt blocks" and pieced quilts from them that display a true blending of contemporary sensibility and antique charm. A book entitled Quilts by Paul D. Pilgrim: Blending the Old and the New , published by the American Quilter's Society, is available for purchase.
